APPEARANCE

Like in her younger years, Sakura has shoulder-length light brown hair usually tied up in pigtails, and expressive green eyes that cannot seem to lie. But she has grown taller, now standing at around 5'2", and while she's slender, with curves at the right places, she's somewhat flat-chested. She's taken a liking to dark colors in the recent years, ditching pinks and yellows for blacks and blues, and simpler clothing in general.

PERSONALITY

Sakura used to be a cheerful, friendly and optimistic girl, but over the years she had become rather serious and secretive (although she is a terrible liar), even to those close to her. While she still spends time with her friends whenever she's able, she is noticeably detached and emotionally conflicted. Her drastic personality change began when she learned about Shaoran's disappearance and started having a chain of prophetic dreams about his death. Love turned into desperation and, eventually, an unhealthy obsession, and her failed efforts to find him led to her depression and withdrawal. Her misconceived loyalty and devotion towards him, and her desire to keep things the same between him and her, also caused her growth, in many aspects, to stagnate. In the six years that they were apart, she never sought the friendship of those who weren't already in her circle, rarely participated in extra-curricular activities as she spent her free time looking for Shaoran or doing part-time jobs so she could buy him birthday presents he'd never receive, and refused to interact with other boys, as it made her feel that she was unfaithful. To top it all off, she even assumed the name Li Ying Fa, adopted Shaoran's fighting style, and learned Chinese as a second language.

Her darkened personality began to defeat her once-invincible spell. Still she believed in destiny, in hitsuzen, that there was no such thing as coincidence, but no longer that everything would be alright. In fact, her prophetic dreams of a faceless magician had left her on the edge for years, knowing that Shaoran's death was to come and feeling the need to be there to prevent it from happening. Such desperation and despair had caused her to become rather difficult to deal with, especially since she'd refuse anyone else's help.

SPECIAL

Abilities/Strengths: Sakura is athletic, and has good reflexes. More importantly, she is an accomplished magician. She had inherited the Clow Cards, a set of magical cards created by the legendary sorcerer Clow Reed (53 in all) and had transformed them into her own. She had also been able to create other cards as well, using her own breed of magic - celestial magic, the power of the Stars. She can also sense magic, tell fortunes through her cards, and see the future through prophetic dreams.

As a person, Sakura is very nice and very kind-hearted. She is always willing to help those who are in need, even if that would be to her disadvantage. She is loving, sweet and thoughtful, and selfless to a great degree.

Notable Possessions: Her necklace is actually a key, called the Star Key, which transforms into a pink staff when her magic is invoked. And using her Cards, her Star Wand can take on numerous forms. She uses a sword most of the time, however.

Due to a complicated turn of events, it came to pass that, in Econtra, Xiao Lang had to take some of her Cards under his power to save her. Thus she's left with half of the original deck (Firey, Earthy, Light, Sword, Wood, Thunder, Sand, Create, Mirror, Flower, Glow, Cloud, Libra, Song, Sweet, Voice, Move, Dash, Fly, Arrow, Shot, Through, Float, Big, Little, Change and Hope) and those she'd created on her own (Claw, Repel, Reverse and Heal, to name a few).

Weaknesses: Sakura may be athletic, but since she has not been properly trained in combat, she isn't as physically strong as Shaoran or Meilin. And she is too nice. She is determined to protect those who are important to her, often to the point of throwing herself into dangerous, life-threatening situations without considering her own welfare. And her greatest weakness is, no doubt, her love for Shaoran - a love that has made her do many things and perhaps, will make her do so much more.

PRE-ECONTRA HISTORY

Sakura is the youngest child and only daughter of Fujitaka, an archaeologist and college professor, and Nadeshiko, a model. Her mother passed away when she was only three, but she grew up under the loving care of her father and her older brother, Touya.

Life had been normal for her until, in fourth grade, she opened a mysterious book, unleashed a set of magical cards into the world, and met a talking plush toy who appointed her as the Card Captor. From then on, things hadn't been the same. As she had one adventure after another, she grew more and more powerful, and made many friends. One such friend was a Chinese boy named Shaoran - a magician who came all the way from Hong Kong, tasked to collect the Clow Cards as well. From rivals, they became friends, and eventually, much more.

However, they weren't meant to be together forever, it seemed. After their adventure involving the mysterious 53rd Clow Card, The Nothing, Shaoran had to return to Hong Kong. And while he promised to marry her someday and even asked her to wait for him, he never came back. To her friends, it was just another relationship that ended poorly, but Sakura had seen him in her dreams - trapped in the darkness and in so much pain.

Terrified by her dreams and the thought that Shaoran was in grave danger, she desperately searched for him, employing whatever means she could devise to find him. But to no avail, because her friends had all conspired to conceal the truth from her. An evil magician by the name of Feiwong had actually taken interest in her and her magic, and, to protect her, Shaoran had set out to fight him. However, he failed, and Feiwong held him hostage, demanding that Sakura be brought to Hong Kong in exchange. Knowing too well the dire consequences should Sakura's power fall into the wrong hands, her family and friends made the painful decision to break her heart, deeming it the only way to protect her and the world.

They succeeded, but only just. They prevented Sakura from going to Hong Kong to rescue Shaoran, all right, but they also witnessed her emotional destruction. It even came to the point that Touya, who caught her one day speaking to an illusion of Shaoran that she herself created, decided that she needed help. "My sister has gone mad," he had said regretfully as he, with much reluctance, set an appointment with a psychologist.

The night after, Sakura returned home late from one of her part-time jobs, carrying with her a thick, dusty book that, as she told Keroberos, was the solution to her problems. It was a magical book, one that had been buried and left forgotten in one of the dark corners of the public library, and in it was a new trick she wanted to try out.

She could have finally found Shaoran... but right that very moment, in the middle of her incantation, she was drafted.

ECONTRA HISTORY

Believing that there was no such thing as coincidence, Sakura accepted the fact that she had been drafted with ease, all the while hoping that Shaoran was in Econtra as well. She chose to use the alias Ying Fa, the special nickname Shaoran had christened her, partly because she wanted him to know it was her should he be drafted, and partly to avoid confusion, as she soon found out that there were two other Sakuras in the compound - her younger self, and the princess from another world.

But Shaoran was not in Econtra. Making the situation worse was the fact that she dreamt about him again, held captive somewhere by a faceless magician. She attempted to escape, wanting to resume her search, but she ended up learning the hard way not to mess with the compound's security system. Her depression started, and it was made even worse when she became friends with Syaoran, the boy from Princess Sakura's world who looked exactly like her Shaoran, as well as Shaoran's younger self, who had also been drafted. In her depression she considered wishing away her memories, but the price she had to pay Yuuko was too high for her liking. It was during her bouts of depression when she met Cloud, who eventually became her closest friend and confidante in Econtra.

The skills competition came and she decided to participate to take her mind off things. She had a refresher course in swordfighting with Syaoran, and she also trained her younger self. She was up against Mint in the one-versus-one match, but in the middle of their battle, Shaoran's image appeared in the arena, distracting her. The hallucinations grew frequent, and for the very same reason she lost in her next match against Isis and Roxas.

It turned out, however, that she wasn't hallucinating in that last battle after all. Shaoran - Xiao Lang as she called him - had been drafted as well, and the two were finally reunited after six years. However, it was a depressing reunion. She was shocked to see the man Xiao Lang had become, both physically and emotionally. And Xiao Lang, who had taken a step back after being held in captivity and tortured for the past few years, made a fatal mistake: he told her that perhaps it would be better if she'd forget about him, so she wouldn't cry anymore.

Loving him more than anything, she obeyed. That very night, she recorded the story of her life, then erased her memories with her magic, plunging herself into a coma. Her friends were thrown into panic, and, Xiao Lang, realizing the mistake he had committed, decided to fix things himself. Although with much reluctance, he used his new powers to enter her mind and bring her back. He was successful, and they were both determined to make things work out from then on, despite everything that had changed between them.

Two of their friends arrived next: Tomoyo and Meilin. Still, it wasn't a happy reunion. So much was left unsaid about the six years in which Xiao Lang had gone missing. Ying Fa, after recovering from her coma, also started having strange memory lapses, to their worry.

Then came the spark that set the chain of events that turned Ying Fa's life around again. The mysterious 53rd Clow Card, The Nothing, had appeared in Econtra, and she was rounding her friends so they could help her younger self seal it. She was, however, upset by Xiao Lang's almost indifferent attitude, and the two had a fight, saying many awful things to each other. In the end she came to realize that love was no longer enough to keep them together and that she was only being a burden to him, so she let him go.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder, however, and in their separation they realized that they did love each other. Ying Fa could not stop worrying about him, while Xiao Lang had to endure bouts of jealousy as other guys started to hit on his ex-girlfriend. Eventually, he decided it was about time for him to tell her the truth, so he did, paving the way for their reconciliation.

But good times, it seems, were never meant to last. Ying Fa started having dreams about the faceless magician again, in which it was Xiao Lang who died. And one day she snapped, having seen in her dreams that she was the faceless magician, and that she was going to kill Xiao Lang. She isolated herself from him to prevent her from doing such a horrible thing, but she could only hold on for so long. As the rest of Econtra panicked about the storm the Entropi caused, she was completely taken over by the darkness - a persona under the control of Fei Wong Reed, an evil magician who had started to make his presence and ill intentions known. And with the cuffs gone haywire, she very nearly succeeded in killing Xiao Lang.

So began the struggle against Fei Wong's madness. Ying Fa became his pawn as well as his leverage against Clow Reed and his allies. But then he discovered that even after having emptied the girl of her soul, still he could not invoke the power of the Stars. He eventually decided to dispose of her, by throwing her into a deadly game he himself had created. He sealed Skuld's ring, which he had stolen, into the girl's body and sent those who were interested in the ring's power after her. One such interested party was Bellatrix Lestrange. Fortunately Ying Fa's friends arrived before more damage could be done. As Xiao Lang ran to the broken girl's side, Tonks, Cloud, Ssilissa and the others pursued the madwoman.

The darkness having retreated after a bloody battle, Ying Fa apologized for all that she had done. Xiao Lang, however, knew for certain that it wasn't her fault - that it was his, because it had been Fei Wong's intention all along that he bring the darkness to her. And so he took it back, kissing her, even as she cried and begged him not to. After taking her to safety, he went after Bellatrix, revenge burning in his blood.

And, many days later, the Card Mistress awoke with the weight of the world on her shoulders. It had all been her fault.
